In value terms, ceramic tile production reduced slightly to $X in 2022. In general, the total production indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.7% over the last decade. In 2022, overseas shipments of ceramic tiles increased by 29% to X square meters, rising for the fourth consecutive year after three years of decline. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 43% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X square meters in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, ceramic tile exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a modest expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +59.7% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 28%. The exports peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Canada (X square meters) was the main destination for ceramic tile exports from the United States, accounting for a 68% share of total exports. Moreover, ceramic tile exports to Canada exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Mexico (X square meters), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Bahamas (X square meters), with a 2.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Canada amounted to +2.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Mexico (+3.2% per year) and Bahamas (+9.9% per year).
In value terms, Canada ($X) remains the key foreign market for ceramic tiles exports from the United States, comprising 67% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mexico ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by Bahamas, with a 3.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Canada stood at +2.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Mexico (+4.7% per year) and Bahamas (+17.9% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average ceramic tile export price stood at $X per square meter in 2022, shrinking by -2.9% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the average export price increased by 20%. The export price peaked at $X per square meter in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Bahamas ($X per square meter), while the average price for exports to Mexico ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bahamas (+7.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the U.S.
In 2022, overseas purchases of ceramic tiles increased by 0.5% to X square meters, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X square meters in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, ceramic tile imports expanded significantly to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 19%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Spain (X square meters), Italy (X square meters) and Mexico (X square meters) were the main suppliers of ceramic tile imports to the United States, with a combined 54% share of total imports. India, Turkey, Brazil, Malaysia, Peru and China lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 39%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for India (with a CAGR of +93.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Italy ($X), Spain ($X) and Mexico ($X) appeared to be the largest ceramic tile suppliers to the United States, together accounting for 68% of total imports. Turkey, India, Brazil, Malaysia, Peru and China lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 24%.
In terms of the main suppliers, India, with a CAGR of +84.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average ceramic tile import price amounted to $X per square meter, picking up by 14% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 17%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per square meter), while the price for Peru ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (+4.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
