Other Cereals Market Size in the U.S.

After two years of growth, the U.S. other cereals market decreased by -31.3% to $X in 2021. In general, consumption, however, enjoyed a strong expansion. Other cereals consumption peaked at $X in 2020, and then dropped markedly in the following year.

Other cereals exports from the United States dropped to X tons in 2021, with a decrease of -4.3% on 2020 figures. Overall, exports saw a pronounced decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 51% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, other cereals exports fell to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 33%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. Canada (X tons) was the main destination for other cereals exports from the United States, with a 28% share of total exports. Moreover, other cereals exports to Canada exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Japan (X tons), fourfold. In value terms, Canada ($X) remains the key foreign market for other cereals exports from the United States, comprising 26% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Netherlands ($X), with a 6.5% share of total exports. It was followed by Belgium, with a 6.5% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Canada amounted to -4.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Netherlands (+23.2% per year) and Belgium (+17.3% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average other cereals export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.5%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 16%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Kuwait ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Korea (+1.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the U.S.

In 2021, the amount of other cerealses imported into the United States shrank markedly to X tons, dropping by -21% against the year before. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 29%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2020, and then reduced remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, other cereals imports shrank rapidly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a moderate increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 98% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Peru (X tons), Bolivia (X tons) and Canada (X tons) were the main suppliers of other cereals imports to the United States, with a combined 83% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Spain, India and South Africa, which together accounted for a further 14%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by South Africa (with a CAGR of +61.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Peru ($X), Bolivia ($X) and Canada ($X) appeared to be the largest other cereals suppliers to the United States, with a combined 85% share of total imports. Spain, India and South Africa lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 11%.

Among the main suppliers, South Africa, with a CAGR of +56.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average other cereals import price amounted to $X per ton, falling by -11.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, enjoyed a modest expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 68% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Peru ($X per ton), while the price for Canada ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
