In value terms, sulphite wood pulp exports reduced to $X in 2021. Overall, exports recorded a deep downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 32%. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
China (X tons), Canada (X tons) and Italy (X tons) were the main destinations of sulphite wood pulp exports from the United States, with a combined 60% share of total exports. These countries were followed by the UK, South Korea, Japan, Chile, the Netherlands, Germany, Vietnam, Belgium and Mexico, which together accounted for a further 30%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Vietnam (with a CAGR of +34.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, imports of chemical wood pulp (sulphite, other than dissolving grades) into the United States surged to X tons, with an increase of 72% on 2020 figures. Over the period under review, imports recorded buoyant growth. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, sulphite wood pulp imports soared to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, Canada (X tons) was the main sulphite wood pulp supplier to the United States, with a 97% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany (X tons), with a 2.8% share of total imports.
