Shaft Coupling Market Size in the U.S.

For the third year in a row, the U.S. shaft coupling market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 4.7% to $X in 2022. In general, consumption saw a mild shrinkage. Over the period under review, the market attained the maximum level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, shaft coupling production reached $X in 2022. Over the period under review, production recorded a perceptible reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the production volume increased by 18%. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, the amount of clutches and shaft couplings exported from the United States surged to X tons, increasing by 28% compared with 2021 figures. In general, exports, however, saw a perceptible decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 29%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, shaft coupling exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 21%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Mexico (X tons) was the main destination for shaft coupling exports from the United States, with a 68% share of total exports. Moreover, shaft coupling exports to Mexico exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Japan (X tons), ninefold. The third position in this ranking was held by China (X tons), with a 7.3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Mexico totaled +8.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Japan (+8.8% per year) and China (+3.0% per year).

In value terms, Mexico ($X), Canada ($X) and China ($X) constituted the largest markets for shaft coupling exported from the United States worldwide, with a combined 49% share of total exports. Japan, the UK, Germany, Brazil, Australia, Singapore, Italy and Chile lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 30%.

Among the main countries of destination, Japan, with a CAGR of +17.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average shaft coupling export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, falling by -6.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average export price increased by 124%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Mexico ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Chile (+39.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the U.S.

For the third consecutive year, the United States recorded growth in supplies from abroad of clutches and shaft couplings, which increased by 17% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 29%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, shaft coupling imports expanded significantly to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 22% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

Canada (X tons), Japan (X tons) and China (X tons) were the main suppliers of shaft coupling imports to the United States, with a combined 61% share of total imports. Germany, India, Italy, Taiwan (Chinese), Mexico, Thailand, Spain and the UK lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 32%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Thailand (with a CAGR of +100.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), Canada ($X) and Japan ($X) constituted the largest shaft coupling suppliers to the United States, together accounting for 52% of total imports. China, India, Italy, Mexico, the UK, Taiwan (Chinese), Thailand and Spain lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 33%.

In terms of the main suppliers, Thailand, with a CAGR of +80.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average shaft coupling import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -8.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a perceptible reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 6% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the price for Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
