In 2021, the amount of continuous and discontinuous totalisers exported from the United States surged to X units, growing by 22% against the year before. Canada (X units) was the main destination for totaliser exports from the United States, with a 52% share of total exports. Moreover, totaliser exports to Canada exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Mexico (X units), sevenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Panama (X units), with a 5.7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Canada amounted to +9.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Mexico (-0.7% per year) and Panama (+18.8% per year).
In value terms, Canada ($X) remains the key foreign market for continuous and discontinuous totalisers exports from the United States, comprising 48% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mexico ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by the Philippines, with a 7.7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Canada totaled +5.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Mexico (-3.2% per year) and the Philippines (+21.6% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average totaliser export price amounted to $X per unit, dropping by -4.5% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a pronounced curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the average export price increased by 30%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2021, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Paraguay ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Turkey (+12.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the U.S.
Totaliser imports into the United States soared to X units in 2021, rising by 32% against 2020. In general, imports showed a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 84% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, totaliser imports rose markedly to $X in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -0.3% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 43% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Japan (X units), Germany (X units) and China (X units) were the main suppliers of totaliser imports to the United States, with a combined 84% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Sri Lanka, Canada, India, the Netherlands, Italy and Denmark, which together accounted for a further 11%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Sri Lanka (with a CAGR of +69.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest totaliser suppliers to the United States were Japan ($X), Germany ($X) and China ($X), together comprising 76% of total imports. Canada, the Netherlands, Italy, India, Sri Lanka and Denmark lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 9.3%.
Sri Lanka, with a CAGR of +53.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average totaliser import price amounted to $X per unit, with a decrease of -16.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a abrupt slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 20% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($X per unit), while the price for Sri Lanka ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
