Candied Fruit Market Size in the U.S.

In 2021, after five years of growth, there was decline in the U.S. candied fruit market, when its value decreased by -4.2% to $X. Over the period under review, consumption, however, saw a resilient increase. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2020, and then reduced slightly in the following year.

Candied Fruit Production in the U.S.

In value terms, candied fruit production dropped to $X in 2021. Overall, production, however, showed a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the production volume increased by 58% against the previous year. In 2021, after five years of decline, there was significant growth in shipments abroad of candied fruits, when their volume increased by 21% to X tons. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 27%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, candied fruit exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded a perceptible setback. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Canada (X tons) was the main destination for candied fruit exports from the United States, accounting for a 33% share of total exports. Moreover, candied fruit exports to Canada exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Saudi Arabia (X tons), twofold. Mexico (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Canada stood at -2.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Saudi Arabia (+10.6% per year) and Mexico (+6.9% per year).

In value terms, Canada ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and Mexico ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for candied fruit exported from the United States worldwide, together accounting for 53% of total exports.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Saudi Arabia, with a CAGR of +14.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average candied fruit export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, waning by -2.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 16%. In 2021, imports of candied fruits into the United States rose notably to X tons, growing by 14% against the year before. In general, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, candied fruit imports rose markedly to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, Thailand (X tons) constituted the largest candied fruit supplier to the United States, with a 35% share of total imports. Moreover, candied fruit imports from Thailand exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Mexico (X tons), twofold. Guatemala (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 11% share.
