Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, ghee exports fell markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 306%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Mexico (X tons) was the main destination for ghee exports from the United States, with a 64% share of total exports. Moreover, ghee exports to Mexico exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Canada (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by the Dominican Republic (X tons), with an 8.3% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Mexico stood at +30.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Canada (+20.2% per year) and the Dominican Republic (+10.4% per year).
In value terms, Mexico ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for ghee exports from the United States, comprising 61% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Canada ($X), with a 21% share of total exports. It was followed by the Dominican Republic, with a 9.7% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Mexico totaled +23.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Canada (+10.3% per year) and the Dominican Republic (+6.2% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average ghee export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by -33.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a abrupt decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 29%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to the Dominican Republic ($X per ton) and Canada ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Guyana ($X per ton) and Mexico ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Ukraine (-1.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Ghee Imports
Imports into the U.S.
After two years of decline, supplies from abroad of ghee increased by 87% to X tons in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a strong expansion. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, ghee imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, imports saw prominent growth. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
India (X tons), New Zealand (X tons) and Mexico (X tons) were the main suppliers of ghee imports to the United States, together comprising 87% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by India (with a CAGR of +61.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, New Zealand ($X) constituted the largest supplier of ghee to the United States, comprising 51% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mexico ($X), with a 20% share of total imports. It was followed by India, with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from New Zealand stood at +5.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Mexico (+14.3% per year) and India (+35.6% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average ghee import price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 5% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a slight contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the average import price increased by 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per ton), while the price for Germany ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
