The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 46%. In value terms, industrial robot exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total exports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +47.3% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 56%. The exports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
Canada (X units), Mexico (X units) and South Korea (X units) were the main destinations of industrial robot exports from the United States, together comprising 50% of total exports. Germany, the UK, the Netherlands, Brazil, Singapore, China, Japan, France, Spain and Switzerland lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 34%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Spain (with a CAGR of +27.1%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for industrial robot exported from the United States were South Korea ($X), Canada ($X) and Mexico ($X), with a combined 57% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Germany, the UK, Singapore, Japan, China, the Netherlands, Brazil, Spain, Switzerland and France, which together accounted for a further 28%.
Among the main countries of destination, Spain, with a CAGR of +31.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average industrial robot export price amounted to $X per unit, flattening at the previous year. In general, export price indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, industrial robot export price increased by +64.5% against 2013 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 13% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit, leveling off in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to France ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Korea (+12.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the U.S.
For the seventh year in a row, the United States recorded growth in overseas purchases of industrial robots for multiple uses, which increased by 25% to X units in 2021. Over the period under review, imports showed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 56%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.
In value terms, industrial robot imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports saw a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 49% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
Japan (X units), the UK (X units) and Italy (X units) were the main suppliers of industrial robot imports to the United States, with a combined 45% share of total imports. China, Denmark, Canada, Germany, France, South Korea, Mexico, Switzerland, Taiwan (Chinese) and Austria lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 47%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Denmark (with a CAGR of +78.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Japan ($X), Denmark ($X) and Canada ($X) appeared to be the largest industrial robot suppliers to the United States, together accounting for 43% of total imports.
Denmark, with a CAGR of +79.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average industrial robot import price amounted to $X per unit, which is down by -5.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 an increase of 3% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per unit in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per unit), while the price for China ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
