Insecticide Market Size in the U.S.
For the sixth consecutive year, the U.S. insecticide market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 3.7% to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, consumption showed a prominent increase. Over the period under review, the market attained the peak level in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Insecticide Production in the U.S.
In value terms, insecticide production declined to $X in 2021. Overall, production, however, posted prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the production volume increased by 40%. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2020, and then shrank in the following year.
Insecticide Exports
Exports from the U.S.
In 2021, shipments abroad of insecticides decreased by -1.8% to X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 31%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2020, and then contracted modestly in the following year.
In value terms, insecticide exports rose rapidly to $X in 2021. In general, total exports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +61.8% against 2017 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 43% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
Brazil (X tons), Canada (X tons) and Mexico (X tons) were the main destinations of insecticide exports from the United States, with a combined 57% share of total exports. Peru, Costa Rica, China, Australia, South Africa, Colombia, Belgium, India, South Korea and Argentina lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 26%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for China (with a CAGR of +17.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the key foreign market for insecticides exports from the United States, comprising 33% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mexico ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by Canada, with a 13% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Brazil amounted to +7.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Mexico (+11.2% per year) and Canada (+10.6% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average insecticide export price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the average export price increased by 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Peru ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mexico (+15.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Insecticide Imports
Imports into the U.S.
In 2021, insecticide imports into the United States skyrocketed to X tons, growing by 42% against the previous year. In general, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +67.5% against 2019 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, insecticide imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
China (X tons), Mexico (X tons) and Canada (X tons) were the main suppliers of insecticide imports to the United States, with a combined 57% share of total imports. India, Indonesia, Germany, Taiwan (Chinese), Poland, Vietnam, Israel, Thailand, South Korea and Japan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 37%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Indonesia (with a CAGR of +99.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest insecticide suppliers to the United States were China ($X), Mexico ($X) and India ($X), with a combined 42% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Canada, South Korea, Israel, Indonesia, Thailand, Japan, Taiwan (Chinese), Poland, Germany and Vietnam, which together accounted for a further 47%.
In terms of the main suppliers, Indonesia, with a CAGR of +106.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average insecticide import price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 1.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a mild reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the average import price increased by 6.8%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+10.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
