The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +43.0% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 36%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, iodine, fluorine and bromine exports rose remarkably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +84.2% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 31% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Canada (X tons), Belgium (X tons) and China (X tons) were the main destinations of iodine, fluorine and bromine exports from the United States, together comprising 70% of total exports. Germany, India, Mexico and the UK lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 25%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by the UK (with a CAGR of +74.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for iodine, fluorine and bromine exported from the United States were Germany ($X), Canada ($X) and India ($X), with a combined 75% share of total exports.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the UK ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium (+11.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Iodine, Fluorine And Bromine
Imports into the U.S.
In 2021, the amount of iodine, fluorine and bromine imported into the United States fell significantly to X tons, with a decrease of -18.3% against the year before. In general, imports recorded a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 14%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, iodine, fluorine and bromine imports fell to $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a deep setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Chile (X tons) constituted the largest iodine, fluorine and bromine supplier to the United States, accounting for a 80% share of total imports. Moreover, iodine, fluorine and bromine imports from Chile exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Japan (X tons), ninefold. The third position in this ranking was held by China (X tons), with a 7.7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Chile amounted to -3.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Japan (-5.4% per year) and China (+65.6% per year).
In value terms, Chile ($X) constituted the largest supplier of iodine, fluorine and bromine to the United States, comprising 88% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Japan ($X), with a 9.7% share of total imports. It was followed by China, with a 1.2% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Chile amounted to -7.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Japan (-4.7% per year) and China (+40.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average iodine, fluorine and bromine import price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 14% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a mild curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 35% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per ton), while the price for Israel ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Israel (+5.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
