Mexico (X tons), Canada (X tons) and Colombia (X tons) were the main destinations of metal link chain parts exports from the United States, together accounting for 84% of total exports. These countries were followed by South Africa, Brazil and China, which together accounted for a further 8.3%.

In 2021, purchases abroad of iron or steel parts of articulated link chain increased by 21% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -6.7% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 26%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Overall, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the last nine years. Imports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
