After three years of decline, the U.S. marble and travertine market increased by 5.1% to $X in 2021. Overall, consumption continues to indicate a mild decline. Marble and travertine consumption peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Among the main countries of destination, Mexico, with a CAGR of +9.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the U.S.
In 2021, supplies from abroad of marble and travertine increased by 25% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. In general, total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +31.5% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 41% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
In value terms, marble and travertine imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2017; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Canada (X tons) constituted the largest marble and travertine supplier to the United States, with a 56% share of total imports. Moreover, marble and travertine imports from Canada exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (X tons), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Egypt (X tons), with a 7.7% share.

Greece, with a CAGR of +66.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average marble and travertine import price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a mild contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the average import price increased by 18%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the price for Canada ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Haiti (+14.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
