Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a mild curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 81% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, camel and other animal meat exports surged to $X in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated a modest increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Cayman Islands (X tons), Costa Rica (X tons) and Colombia (X tons) were the main destinations of camel and other animal meat exports from the United States, with a combined 44% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Colombia (with a CAGR of +75.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Cayman Islands ($X), Costa Rica ($X) and Canada ($X) were the largest markets for camel and other animal meat exported from the United States worldwide, with a combined 48% share of total exports. Hong Kong SAR, the Dominican Republic, Panama, Bahamas, Japan, Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Suriname and China lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 40%.
Colombia, with a CAGR of +56.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average export price for meat of camels and other animals amounted to $X per ton, surging by 11% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, camel and other animal meat export price decreased by -8.1% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the average export price increased by 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Canada ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Colombia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Canada (+21.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Meat of Camels and Other Animals
Imports into the U.S.
In 2022, overseas purchases of meat of camels and other animals increased by 9.2% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after three years of decline. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 48% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, camel and other animal meat imports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the last decade. In 2022, New Zealand (X tons) constituted the largest camel and other animal meat supplier to the United States, accounting for a 55% share of total imports. Moreover, camel and other animal meat imports from New Zealand exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Vietnam (X tons), with an 8.8% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from New Zealand stood at +9.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (-2.3% per year) and Vietnam (-6.4% per year).
In value terms, New Zealand ($X) constituted the largest supplier of meat of camels and other animals to the United States, comprising 66% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Vietnam ($X), with a 10% share of total imports. It was followed by China, with an 8.8% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from New Zealand stood at +8.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Vietnam (-2.0% per year) and China (-8.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average import price for meat of camels and other animals stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 5.3% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.0%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average import price increased by 21%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Canada ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
