Canada (X tons) was the main destination for optical fiber cables exports from the United States, accounting for a 61% share of total exports. Moreover, optical fiber cables exports to Canada exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Mexico (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Germany (X tons), with a 4.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Canada totaled -1.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Mexico (-7.7% per year) and Germany (+18.6% per year).
In value terms, the largest markets for optical fiber cables exported from the United States were Mexico ($X), Canada ($X) and Germany ($X), together accounting for 77% of total exports.
Among the main countries of destination, Germany, with a CAGR of +16.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average optical fiber cables export price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 9.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price enjoyed a prominent increase. Imports into the U.S.
For the third year in a row, the United States recorded growth in supplies from abroad of optical fiber cables, which increased by 92% to X tons in 2022. In general, imports showed a significant expansion. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, optical fiber cables imports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 75%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

In 2022, Mexico (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of optical fiber cables to the United States, with a 57% share of total imports. Moreover, optical fiber cables imports from Mexico exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (X tons), sevenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by China (X tons), with a 6.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Mexico totaled +105.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+528.6% per year) and China (+2.2% per year).
In value terms, Mexico ($X) constituted the largest supplier of optical fiber cables to the United States, comprising 57% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by India ($X), with an 8.8% share of total imports. It was followed by China, with a 6.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Mexico stood at +19.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+49.7% per year) and China (+2.7% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average optical fiber cables import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -14.8% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a mild curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 14%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then shrank in the following year.
