In value terms, China ($X), Mexico ($X) and France ($X) constituted the largest markets for optical fiber and bundle exported from the United States worldwide, together comprising 31% of total exports. Canada, Germany, Poland, Japan, Sweden, the UK, Hong Kong SAR, Thailand, Romania and South Korea lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 39%.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Romania, with a CAGR of +126.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average optical fiber and bundle export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 2.6% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.1%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 18%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to South Korea ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Canada (+8.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the U.S.
In 2022, overseas purchases of optical fibers and bundles increased by 123% to X tons, rising for the third consecutive year after four years of decline. Overall, imports showed a resilient increase. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, Japan (X tons) constituted the largest optical fiber and bundle supplier to the United States, with a 58% share of total imports. Moreover, optical fiber and bundle imports from Japan exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Denmark (X tons), threefold. The Netherlands (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 7.6% share.
