In value terms, polyamide production rose remarkably to $X in 2021. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 16% against the previous year. In 2021, shipments abroad of polyamides (in primary forms) was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, exports continue to indicate mild growth. The exports peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, polyamide exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Mexico (X tons) was the main destination for polyamide exports from the United States, with a 20% share of total exports. Moreover, polyamide exports to Mexico exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Canada (X tons), twofold. China (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 7.7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Mexico totaled +5.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Canada (-2.9% per year) and China (-4.4% per year).
In value terms, Mexico ($X) remains the key foreign market for polyamides (in primary forms) exports from the United States, comprising 22% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by China ($X), with a 9.8% share of total exports. It was followed by Canada, with a 7.3% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Mexico stood at +5.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: China (-0.6% per year) and Canada (-2.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average polyamide export price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Italy ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In general, total imports indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Imports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, polyamide imports surged to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Canada (X tons), Germany (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) were the main suppliers of polyamide imports to the United States, with a combined 58% share of total imports. Belgium, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, China, South Korea, Mexico, Japan, Taiwan (Chinese) and France lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 36%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Slovenia (with a CAGR of +51.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest polyamide suppliers to the United States were Canada ($X), Germany ($X) and Switzerland ($X), together accounting for 52% of total imports. The Netherlands, France, Japan, China, Belgium, South Korea, Slovenia, Spain, Mexico and Taiwan (Chinese) lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 40%.
Among the main suppliers, Slovenia, with a CAGR of +46.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average polyamide import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 7.1% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a pronounced downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 8.4% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the price for Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+2.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
