In value terms, potato starch exports dropped sharply to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a noticeable expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -12.3% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 35%. The exports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Imports into the U.S.
For the fifth consecutive year, the United States recorded growth in overseas purchases of potato starch, which increased by 18% to X tons in 2021. In general, total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +40.7% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 25% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
In value terms, potato starch imports expanded markedly to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
The Netherlands (X tons), Denmark (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main suppliers of potato starch imports to the United States, together accounting for 61% of total imports. These countries were followed by Canada, Poland, France, Finland and Austria, which together accounted for a further 37%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Finland (with a CAGR of +38.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest potato starch suppliers to the United States were the Netherlands ($X), Denmark ($X) and Germany ($X), together comprising 65% of total imports. These countries were followed by Poland, Canada, France, Finland and Austria, which together accounted for a further 31%.
Finland, with a CAGR of +34.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average potato starch import price amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -10.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a pronounced reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 11%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per ton), while the price for Canada ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Canada (+1.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
