The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 1,789%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Mexico (X tons) was the main destination for refined lead exports from the United States, accounting for a 71% share of total exports. Moreover, refined lead exports to Mexico exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Canada (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Ecuador (X tons), with a 9.3% share.

In value terms, Mexico ($X) remains the key foreign market for refined lead (unwrought) exports from the United States, comprising 75% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Canada ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Ecuador, with a 6.7% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Mexico totaled -5.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Canada (+12.9% per year) and Ecuador (+76.1% per year).

In 2022, purchases abroad of refined lead (unwrought) increased by 9.6% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after three years of decline. In general, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +11.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +70.7% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 80%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, refined lead imports rose significantly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports saw a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 95% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2017; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.
Imports by Country
South Korea (X tons), Australia (X tons) and Mexico (X tons) were the main suppliers of refined lead imports to the United States, with a combined 57% share of total imports. Canada, China, Nigeria, Pakistan and Peru lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 34%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Nigeria (with a CAGR of +62.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
