Roasted Malt Market Size in the U.S.

The U.S. roasted malt market fell to $X in 2022, which is down by -1.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the total consumption indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the last decade. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, roasted malt exports expanded remarkably to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw a deep setback. Canada (X tons) was the main destination for roasted malt exports from the United States, accounting for a 70% share of total exports. Moreover, roasted malt exports to Canada exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Mexico (X tons), fourfold. Colombia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 4.4% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Canada totaled -11.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Mexico (-10.3% per year) and Colombia (+19.7% per year).

In value terms, Canada ($X) remains the key foreign market for roasted malt exports from the United States, comprising 69% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mexico ($X), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by Colombia, with a 5.4% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Canada amounted to -9.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Mexico (-9.3% per year) and Colombia (+21.3% per year).

In 2022, the average roasted malt export price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 3.6% against the previous year. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 24% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, roasted malt imports shrank slightly to $X in 2022. In general, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 28%. Imports peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The UK (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Belgium (X tons) were the main suppliers of roasted malt imports to the United States, together comprising 85% of total imports. Denmark, the Netherlands, Canada and France lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 14%.

The average roasted malt import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 6.3%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
