The U.S. pyrotechnic articles market was finally on the rise to reach $X in 2021, after two years of decline. Overall, consumption, however, saw a slight decrease. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, shipments abroad of signalling flares, rain rockets, fog signals and other pyrotechnic articles decreased by -42.4% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after four years of growth. In general, exports saw a noticeable decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 68%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, pyrotechnic articles exports fell markedly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a noticeable decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 54%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Canada (X tons) was the main destination for pyrotechnic articles exports from the United States, with a 35% share of total exports. Moreover, pyrotechnic articles exports to Canada exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Kuwait (X tons), twofold. New Zealand (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 7.1% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Canada totaled +19.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Kuwait (+84.6% per year) and New Zealand (+88.7% per year).

In value terms, Israel ($X), China ($X) and Canada ($X) constituted the largest markets for pyrotechnic articles exported from the United States worldwide, with a combined 34% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, Australia, South Korea, El Salvador, Latvia and Jordan, which together accounted for a further 42%.

In terms of the main countries of destination, El Salvador, with a CAGR of +139.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average pyrotechnic articles export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 20% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a mild shrinkage. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Canada ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, overseas purchases of signalling flares, rain rockets, fog signals and other pyrotechnic articles were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 63% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
