Canada (X tons) was the main destination for specialty canning exports from the United States, accounting for a 88% share of total exports. It was followed by Mexico (X tons), with a 1.8% share of total exports. Hong Kong SAR (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 1.1% share.

In value terms, Canada ($X) remains the key foreign market for specialty canning exports from the United States, comprising 86% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mexico ($X), with a 2.3% share of total exports. It was followed by Japan, with a 1.3% share.
From 2013 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Canada stood at +3.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Mexico (+5.0% per year) and Japan (-10.7% per year).

In 2021, the average specialty canning export price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 8.2% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports into the U.S.
Specialty canning imports into the United States stood at X tons in 2021, picking up by 9.7% compared with 2020. Overall, imports continue to indicate prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 222% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
In value terms, specialty canning imports expanded significantly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated tangible growth from 2013 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the last eight years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +80.4% against 2015 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

In 2021, Canada (X tons) constituted the largest specialty canning supplier to the United States, with a 79% share of total imports. Moreover, specialty canning imports from Canada exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Chile (X tons), more than tenfold. South Korea (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 2.5% share.
From 2013 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Canada stood at +6.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Chile (+76.7% per year) and South Korea (+31.2% per year).
In value terms, Canada ($X) constituted the largest supplier of specialty canning to the United States, comprising 63% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Chile ($X), with a 10% share of total imports. It was followed by South Korea, with a 3.9% share.
From 2013 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Canada was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Chile (+101.3% per year) and South Korea (+41.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average specialty canning import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 2.8% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a noticeable decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 122%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton.
