Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X units in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, spectacles and goggles exports declined notably to $X in 2021. In general, exports showed a pronounced decrease. Canada (X units) was the main destination for spectacles and goggles exports from the United States, accounting for a 66% share of total exports. Moreover, spectacles and goggles exports to Canada exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Mexico (X units), tenfold. In value terms, Canada ($X) remains the key foreign market for spectacles and goggles exports from the United States, comprising 46% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mexico ($X), with a 6.3% share of total exports. It was followed by Japan, with a 3% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Canada was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Mexico (-8.5% per year) and Japan (+1.0% per year).

Imports into the U.S.
In 2021, imports of spectacles and goggles into the United States fell remarkably to X units, with a decrease of -15.3% on 2020. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 27%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units, and then fell rapidly in the following year.
In value terms, spectacles and goggles imports shrank slightly to $X in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +79.7% against 2012 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2020, and then contracted slightly in the following year.

China (X units), Taiwan (Chinese) (X units) and Thailand (X units) were the main suppliers of spectacles and goggles imports to the United States, together comprising 96% of total imports.
