Television Receiver Market Size in the U.S.

In 2022, the U.S. television receiver market decreased by -9.9% to $X for the first time since 2017, thus ending a four-year rising trend. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X, and then reduced in the following year.

Television Receiver Production in the U.S.

In value terms, television receiver production shrank slightly to $X in 2022. In general, production, however, posted a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the production volume increased by 164%. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, shipments abroad of television receivers decreased by -27.6% to X units, falling for the fifth consecutive year after four years of growth. In general, exports continue to indicate a abrupt curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 31%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, television receiver exports fell to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 11%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Mexico (X units) was the main destination for television receiver exports from the United States, with a 67% share of total exports. Moreover, television receiver exports to Mexico exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Canada (X units), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Guatemala (X units), with a 2.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Mexico stood at -6.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Canada (-13.3% per year) and Guatemala (+20.3% per year).

In value terms, Mexico ($X), Canada ($X) and Guatemala ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for television receiver exported from the United States worldwide, together comprising 85% of total exports. Argentina and Nicaragua lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 1%.

Nicaragua, with a CAGR of +12.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, the average television receiver export price amounted to $X per unit, growing by 24% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a slight contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 48%. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Canada ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Nicaragua ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

Imports into the U.S.

For the fourth year in a row, the United States recorded decline in overseas purchases of television receivers, which decreased by -12.9% to X units in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 13% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, television receiver imports fell significantly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a abrupt shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 17%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Mexico (X units) constituted the largest television receiver supplier to the United States, accounting for a 57% share of total imports. Moreover, television receiver imports from Mexico exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X units), threefold. Vietnam (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Mexico totaled -1.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (-12.4% per year) and Vietnam (+59.5% per year).

In value terms, Mexico ($X) constituted the largest supplier of television receivers to the United States, comprising 77% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by China ($X), with a 9.5% share of total imports. It was followed by Vietnam, with a 6.6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Mexico amounted to -3.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (-13.2% per year) and Vietnam (+65.4% per year).

The average television receiver import price stood at $X per unit in 2022, falling by -5.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 41%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit, and then fell in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per unit), while the price for Indonesia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+4.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
