The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 32%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, twine and cordage exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Mexico (X tons) was the main destination for twine and cordage exports from the United States, with a 38% share of total exports. Moreover, twine and cordage exports to Mexico exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Canada (X tons), twofold. Switzerland (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 7.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Mexico stood at +3.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Canada (-3.1% per year) and Switzerland (+71.2% per year).
In value terms, Mexico ($X) remains the key foreign market for twine, cordage, rope and cables exports from the United States, comprising 33% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Canada ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by China, with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Mexico stood at +5.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Canada (-1.8% per year) and China (+25.4% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average twine and cordage export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 12% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.3%. Imports into the U.S.
For the fourth consecutive year, the United States recorded growth in supplies from abroad of twine, cordage, rope and cables, which increased by 1.7% to X tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 12% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, twine and cordage imports totaled $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
China (X tons), Portugal (X tons) and Brazil (X tons) were the main suppliers of twine and cordage imports to the United States, together comprising 48% of total imports. Vietnam, India, Sri Lanka, Mexico, Canada, Turkey, the Philippines and South Korea lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 41%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Turkey (with a CAGR of +43.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest twine and cordage suppliers to the United States were China ($X), Portugal ($X) and Vietnam ($X), with a combined 40% share of total imports. Brazil, Mexico, Canada, India, Sri Lanka, Turkey, the Philippines and South Korea lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 37%.
Turkey, with a CAGR of +45.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average twine and cordage import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 5.4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 11%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Canada ($X per ton), while the price for Sri Lanka ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
