The average worked slate export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average export price increased by 70%. The export price peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Bahamas ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Japan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bahamas (+19.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the U.S.
In 2022, the amount of worked slate imported into the United States fell to X tons, with a decrease of -11.5% on the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a noticeable downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 16%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, worked slate imports reached $X in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a perceptible decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 19%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

China (X tons), Brazil (X tons) and India (X tons) were the main suppliers of worked slate imports to the United States, with a combined 77% share of total imports. Spain, Canada, Vietnam and the UK lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 20%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Vietnam (with a CAGR of +14.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, China ($X), Brazil ($X) and Spain ($X) appeared to be the largest worked slate suppliers to the United States, together accounting for 63% of total imports. India, Canada, the UK and Vietnam lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 33%.
