Aircraft Market Size in Uganda

In 2022, the Ugandan aircraft market decreased by 0% to less than $X, falling for the second year in a row after three years of decline. In general, consumption saw a precipitous decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the market value decreased by -37% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, aircraft production reduced modestly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production enjoyed a temperate increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 29% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production attained the maximum level at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports from Uganda

In 2020, aircraft exports from Uganda amounted to X units, standing approx. at the previous year. Over the period under review, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The smallest decline of 99.9% was in 2019. The exports peaked in 2020 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

In value terms, aircraft exports amounted to $X in 2020. Overall, exports continue to indicate a precipitous contraction. The smallest decline of -19.1% was in 2013. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2020, the exports failed to regain momentum.

South Africa (X units) was the main destination for aircraft exports from Uganda, accounting for a approx. 100% share of total exports.

From 2017 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of volume to South Africa was relatively modest.

From 2017 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of value to South Africa stood at -82.9%.

Export Prices by Country

In 2020, the average aircraft export price amounted to $X per unit, stabilizing at the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a dramatic shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average export price decreased by -41%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2020, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for South Africa.

From 2017 to 2020, the rate of growth in terms of prices for South Africa amounted to -82.9% per year.

Aircraft Imports

Imports into Uganda

In 2022, approx. X units of airplanes and other aircraft were imported into Uganda; reducing by -23.1% compared with 2021 figures. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 139% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, aircraft imports shrank remarkably to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 7,244%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Israel (X units), Denmark (X units) and the Netherlands (X units) were the main suppliers of aircraft imports to Uganda, with a combined 70% share of total imports. Moreover, aircraft imports in Israel exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Denmark, twofold.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Israel (with a CAGR of +14.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Israel ($X) constituted the largest supplier of airplanes and other aircraft to Uganda, comprising 67% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by South Africa ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Denmark, with a 4.3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Israel totaled +25.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: South Africa (+12.0% per year) and Denmark (-5.9% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average aircraft import price amounted to $X per unit, falling by -18.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 5,775% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2021, and then contracted markedly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per unit), while the price for the United States ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+12.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
