Circuit Breaker Market Size in Uganda

The Ugandan circuit breaker market surged to $X in 2022, with an increase of 23% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). Overall, the total consumption indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, consumption decreased by -19.6% against 2020 indices. Circuit breaker consumption peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Circuit Breaker Exports

Exports from Uganda

After two years of decline, overseas shipments of automatic circuit breakers increased by 57% to X units in 2022. In general, exports posted a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 1,934% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X units in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, circuit breaker exports expanded markedly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a pronounced downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 645%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

South Sudan (X units) was the main destination for circuit breaker exports from Uganda, with a 78% share of total exports. Moreover, circuit breaker exports to South Sudan exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Democratic Republic of the Congo (X units), fourfold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to South Sudan stood at -7.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Democratic Republic of the Congo (-1.6% per year) and Rwanda (-16.9% per year).

In value terms, Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X), South Sudan ($X) and Rwanda ($X) were the largest markets for circuit breaker exported from Uganda worldwide, with a combined 97% share of total exports.

Democratic Republic of the Congo, with a CAGR of +5.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average circuit breaker export price amounted to $X per unit, shrinking by -29.2% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 656%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2018 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Rwanda ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to South Sudan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Tanzania (+55.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Circuit Breaker Imports

Imports into Uganda

In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in supplies from abroad of automatic circuit breakers, when their volume increased by 44% to X units. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a perceptible increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 62%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, circuit breaker imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -12.0% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 40% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X units) constituted the largest supplier of circuit breaker to Uganda, with a 58% share of total imports. Moreover, circuit breaker imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United Arab Emirates (X units), fourfold. India (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 15% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at +15.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+22.2% per year) and India (-9.0% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of automatic circuit breakers to Uganda, comprising 43% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by India ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with an 8.6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China stood at +27.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (-1.4% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+18.7% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average circuit breaker import price stood at $X per unit in 2022, which is down by -19.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, enjoyed a tangible expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 62%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit, and then fell rapidly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per unit), while the price for the United Arab Emirates ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
