Baby Carriage Market Size in Uganda

The Ugandan baby carriage market stood at $X in 2022, picking up by 2.8% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). In general, consumption, however, showed strong growth. Baby carriage consumption peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Exports from Uganda

In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas shipments of baby carriages, when their volume increased by 100% to X units. In general, exports, however, saw a sharp curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when exports increased by 148% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, baby carriage exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a sharp contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 307% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Burundi (X units) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (X units) were the main destinations of baby carriage exports from Uganda.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Burundi (with a CAGR of -6.7%).

In value terms, Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X) remains the key foreign market for baby carriages exports from Uganda, comprising 59% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Burundi ($X), with a 26% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Democratic Republic of the Congo totaled -18.0%.

Export Prices by Country

The average baby carriage export price stood at $X per unit in 2022, rising by 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a deep setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 an increase of 88%. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Burundi totaled $X per unit.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Kenya (+4.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Uganda

Baby carriage imports into Uganda dropped slightly to X units in 2022, declining by -4.2% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, imports, however, saw a buoyant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 254% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X units in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, baby carriage imports rose sharply to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a noticeable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 181%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

The UK (X units), the United Arab Emirates (X units) and the United States (X units) were the main suppliers of baby carriage imports to Uganda, with a combined 73% share of total imports. China, Indonesia, Turkey, Japan and Australia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 18%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Turkey (with a CAGR of +104.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, China ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and the UK ($X) appeared to be the largest baby carriage suppliers to Uganda, together accounting for 69% of total imports. The United States, Turkey, Indonesia, Japan and Australia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 21%.

In terms of the main suppliers, Turkey, with a CAGR of +90.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average baby carriage import price amounted to $X per unit, increasing by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a noticeable setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the average import price increased by 29%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2016 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per unit), while the price for Australia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
