Exports from Uganda
In 2022, the amount of chocolate bars with cereals, fruit or nuts exported from Uganda soared to X tons, with an increase of 23% on the previous year's figure. In general, exports continue to indicate a noticeable expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 943% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, exports of chocolate bars with cereals, fruit or nuts soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed tangible growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 490%. Over the period under review, the exports of hit record highs at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Switzerland (X tons), Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons) and Burundi (X tons) were the main destinations of exports of chocolate bars with cereals, fruit or nuts from Uganda, with a combined 87% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Burundi (with a CAGR of +28.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Switzerland ($X) remains the key foreign market for chocolate bars with cereals, fruit or nuts exports from Uganda, comprising 54% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X), with a 10% share of total exports. It was followed by Japan, with an 8.3% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Switzerland stood at +16.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Democratic Republic of the Congo (-15.5% per year) and Japan (+13.0% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average export price for chocolate bars with cereals, fruit or nuts stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 6.5% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a mild downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the average export price increased by 186% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Rwanda ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Sudan (+28.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Chocolate Bars with Cereals, Fruit or Nuts
Imports into Uganda
In 2022, the amount of chocolate bars with cereals, fruit or nuts imported into Uganda skyrocketed to X tons, rising by 19% against the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a slight downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 176% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports of remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, imports of chocolate bars with cereals, fruit or nuts contracted to $X in 2022. Overall, imports showed a temperate expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 128% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports of failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Egypt (X tons) constituted the largest cereal, fruit or nut chocolate bar supplier to Uganda, with a 36% share of total imports. Moreover, imports of chocolate bars with cereals, fruit or nuts from Egypt exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Kenya (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Turkey (X tons), with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Egypt stood at +7.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kenya (-0.6% per year) and Turkey (+23.0% per year).
In value terms, Egypt ($X) constituted the largest supplier of chocolate bars with cereals, fruit or nuts to Uganda, comprising 34% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kenya ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with a 10% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Egypt totaled +12.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kenya (+5.7% per year) and Germany (+6.9% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average import price for chocolate bars with cereals, fruit or nuts amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -20.2% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, posted a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 68%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then shrank dramatically in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+15.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
