The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production increased by +3.2% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the production volume increased by 58% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production attained the maximum level at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports from Uganda
In 2022, shipments abroad of electrical parts of machinery or apparatus decreased by -16.9% to X kg for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, exports, however, enjoyed a mild expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 1,262% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, machinery electrical parts exports dropped markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a deep downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 1,642% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Belgium (X kg) was the main destination for machinery electrical parts exports from Uganda, accounting for a 93% share of total exports. Moreover, machinery electrical parts exports to Belgium exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Democratic Republic of the Congo (X kg), more than tenfold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Belgium stood at +27.7%.
In value terms, Belgium ($X) remains the key foreign market for electrical parts of machinery or apparatus exports from Uganda, comprising 92% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X), with a 6.9% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Belgium stood at +23.4%.
Export Prices by Country
The average machinery electrical parts export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 57%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Belgium stood at $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium (-3.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Machinery Electrical Parts Imports
Imports into Uganda
In 2022, supplies from abroad of electrical parts of machinery or apparatus increased by 24% to X kg, rising for the third year in a row after two years of decline. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 468%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, machinery electrical parts imports expanded significantly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed a abrupt shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 209% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
China (X kg), the UK (X kg) and the United Arab Emirates (X kg) were the main suppliers of machinery electrical parts imports to Uganda, together comprising 93% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by China (with a CAGR of +32.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced a decline.
In value terms, the largest machinery electrical parts suppliers to Uganda were the UK ($X), China ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X), together comprising 70% of total imports.
China, with a CAGR of +53.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
Import Prices by Country
The average machinery electrical parts import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -9.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a pronounced curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 209%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kenya ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+27.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
