Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 499%. Over the period under review, the exports of attained the peak figure at X square meters in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, exports of floor, wall or ceiling coverings of plastics contracted slightly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, posted buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 841% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports of remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

South Sudan (X square meters) was the main destination for exports of floor, wall or ceiling coverings of plastics from Uganda, accounting for a 68% share of total exports. Moreover, exports of floor, wall or ceiling coverings of plastics to South Sudan exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Sudan (X square meters), fourfold. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 384%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per square meter. From 2014 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ireland ($X per square meter), while the average price for exports to Sudan ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Sudan (+14.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, approx. X square meters of floor, wall or ceiling coverings of plastics were imported into Uganda; with an increase of 47% compared with the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a abrupt decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 73% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of reached the maximum at X square meters in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

China (X square meters), Hong Kong SAR (X square meters) and the United Arab Emirates (X square meters) were the main suppliers of imports of floor, wall or ceiling coverings of plastics to Uganda, with a combined 64% share of total imports. Thailand, India, Kenya and South Korea lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 17%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for India (with a CAGR of +19.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of floor, wall or ceiling coverings of plastics to Uganda, comprising 36% of total imports. In 2022, the average import price for floor, wall or ceiling coverings of plastics amounted to $X per square meter, with a decrease of -13.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, import price for floor, wall or ceiling coverings of plastics increased by +39.4% against 2020 indices.
