In 2022, after four years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of fork-lift trucks and other industrial works trucks and tractors, when their volume decreased by -36.8% to X units. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a tangible increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 1,320% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports of failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, exports of fork-lift trucks and other industrial works trucks and tractors stood at $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a abrupt contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 898% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports of remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Democratic Republic of the Congo (X units) was the main destination for exports of fork-lift trucks and other industrial works trucks and tractors from Uganda, with a 86% share of total exports. Moreover, exports of fork-lift trucks and other industrial works trucks and tractors to Democratic Republic of the Congo exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, South Sudan (X units), tenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Kenya (X units), with an 8.3% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Democratic Republic of the Congo amounted to +31.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: South Sudan (-2.8% per year) and Kenya (-8.1% per year).
In value terms, the largest markets for forklift truck and industrial works truck exported from Uganda were Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X), Sudan ($X) and South Sudan ($X), together comprising 95% of total exports. Kenya, Burundi, Rwanda and Tanzania lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 4.6%.
Burundi, with a CAGR of +9.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline.
Export Prices by Country
The average export price for fork-lift trucks and other industrial works trucks and tractors stood at $X per unit in 2022, growing by 59% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a abrupt decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the average export price increased by 120% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2018 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Sudan ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Tanzania ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Burundi (+21.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Fork-Lift Trucks and Other Industrial Works Trucks and Tractors
Imports into Uganda
In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of fork-lift trucks and other industrial works trucks and tractors, when their volume decreased by -34.1% to X units. Overall, imports, however, saw a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 254% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units, and then declined notably in the following year.
In value terms, imports of fork-lift trucks and other industrial works trucks and tractors reached $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 167% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports of remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
China (X units), Japan (X units) and Italy (X units) were the main suppliers of imports of fork-lift trucks and other industrial works trucks and tractors to Uganda, together comprising 56% of total imports. The UK, Rwanda, the United States and India lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 19%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Rwanda (with a CAGR of +35.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, China ($X), the UK ($X) and the United States ($X) appeared to be the largest forklift truck and industrial works truck suppliers to Uganda, together comprising 47% of total imports.
The UK, with a CAGR of +7.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average import price for fork-lift trucks and other industrial works trucks and tractors amounted to $X per unit, growing by 53% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a abrupt descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 58% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2015 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per unit), while the price for Japan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+2.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
