In 2022, the average yield of fruits and berries in Uganda shrank slightly to X tons per ha, standing approx. at 2021. Over the period under review, the yield showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the yield increased by X%. As a result, the yield attained the peak level of X tons per ha. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the average fruit and berry yield remained at a somewhat lower figure. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.
In 2022, the total area harvested in terms of fruits and berries production in Uganda rose slightly to X ha, picking up by X% on the year before. Overall, the harvested area saw buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The fruit and berry harvested area peaked at X ha in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the harvested area remained at a lower figure.

Exports from Uganda
For the third consecutive year, Uganda recorded growth in shipments abroad of fruits and berries, which increased by X% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports saw significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by X%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, fruit and berry exports shrank to $X in 2022. Overall, exports posted a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by X%. The exports peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Kenya (X tons) was the main destination for fruit and berry exports from Uganda, with a X% share of total exports. Moreover, fruit and berry exports to Kenya exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Rwanda (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by the UK (X tons), with a X% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Kenya amounted to X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Rwanda (X% per year) and the UK (X% per year).
In value terms, the largest markets for fruit and berry exported from Uganda were Kenya ($X), Qatar ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a combined X% share of total exports. The UK, Rwanda and South Sudan lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X%.
In terms of the main countries of destination, South Sudan, with a CAGR of X%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average fruit and berry export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, waning by X% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the average export price increased by X% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Qatar ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Kenya ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Sudan (X%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Uganda
In 2022, overseas purchases of fruits and berries decreased by X% to X tons for the first time since 2011, thus ending a ten-year rising trend. In general, imports, however, enjoyed a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by X%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then declined slightly in the following year.
In value terms, fruit and berry imports shrank slightly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then contracted slightly in the following year.
Imports by Country
South Africa (X tons), Kenya (X tons) and Egypt (X tons) were the main suppliers of fruit and berry imports to Uganda, together comprising X% of total imports. Turkey and Tanzania lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X%.
