Golf Equipment Market Size in Uganda

For the fifth consecutive year, the Ugandan golf equipment market recorded decline in sales value, which decreased by -53.3% to $X in 2022. In general, consumption recorded a abrupt contraction. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the market failed to regain momentum.

Exports from Uganda

In 2022, approx. X units of golf clubs and other golf equipment were exported from Uganda; jumping by 97% against the previous year. Overall, exports saw strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 320% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, golf equipment exports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 185% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Democratic Republic of the Congo (X units), Rwanda (X units) and Burundi (X units) were the main destinations of golf equipment exports from Uganda, together comprising 90% of total exports. South Africa and Kenya lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 10%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Kenya (with a CAGR of +36.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X) remains the key foreign market for golf clubs and other golf equipment exports from Uganda, comprising 55% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Rwanda ($X), with a 22% share of total exports. It was followed by South Africa, with a 14% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Democratic Republic of the Congo stood at +43.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Rwanda (+16.3% per year) and South Africa (+2.2% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average golf equipment export price stood at $X per unit in 2022, declining by -28.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate pronounced growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the average export price increased by 88% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Burundi ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Democratic Republic of the Congo (+20.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Golf Equipment Imports

Imports into Uganda

In 2022, the amount of golf clubs and other golf equipment imported into Uganda declined rapidly to X units, reducing by -31.8% on 2021. Over the period under review, imports saw a abrupt decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 221%. Imports peaked at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, golf equipment imports reduced markedly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports saw a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 362%. Imports peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Taiwan (Chinese) (X units), China (X units) and the UK (X units) were the main suppliers of golf equipment imports to Uganda, with a combined 59% share of total imports. Japan, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, Hong Kong SAR, South Africa, Belgium and Pakistan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 29%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Japan (with a CAGR of -2.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline.

In value terms, the largest golf equipment suppliers to Uganda were the UK ($X), the United States ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a combined 49% share of total imports. Taiwan (Chinese), Japan, China, South Africa, Hong Kong SAR, Belgium and Pakistan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 26%.

Among the main suppliers, Japan, with a CAGR of +14.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average golf equipment import price amounted to $X per unit, falling by -10.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, posted a tangible expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 92%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per unit), while the price for China ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+24.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
