The Ugandan market for hair brushes and shaving and toilet brushes for personal use reached $X in 2022, stabilizing at the previous year. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 71% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

South Sudan (X units), Democratic Republic of the Congo (X units) and Tanzania (X units) were the main destinations of hair, shaving and toilet brush exports from Uganda, together accounting for 87% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Democratic Republic of the Congo (with a CAGR of +40.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In value terms, South Sudan ($X) remains the key foreign market for hair brushes and shaving and toilet brushes for personal use exports from Uganda, comprising 81% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Tanzania ($X), with a 9.5% share of total exports. It was followed by Democratic Republic of the Congo, with a 7.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to South Sudan totaled +15.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Tanzania (+9.5% per year) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (+18.3% per year).

In 2022, the average export price for hair brushes and shaving and toilet brushes for personal use amounted to $X per unit, picking up by 10% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 126% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, the amount of hair brushes and shaving and toilet brushes for personal use imported into Uganda stood at X units, picking up by 12% on the year before. In general, imports recorded a noticeable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 77%. Imports peaked at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, hair, shaving and toilet brush imports contracted slightly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 54%. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then dropped modestly in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X units) constituted the largest supplier of hair, shaving and toilet brush to Uganda, with a 80% share of total imports. Moreover, hair, shaving and toilet brush imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United Arab Emirates (X units), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by India (X units), with a 3.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China totaled +8.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United Arab Emirates (-13.0% per year) and India (+47.2% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of hair brushes and shaving and toilet brushes for personal use to Uganda, comprising 76% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by India ($X), with a 7.8% share of total imports. It was followed by the UK, with a 4.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China amounted to +14.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+46.7% per year) and the UK (+6.4% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average import price for hair brushes and shaving and toilet brushes for personal use amounted to $X per unit, with a decrease of -14.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a tangible expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 an increase of 86% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per unit in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.
