The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Tanzania (X units), Democratic Republic of the Congo (X units) and Rwanda (X units) were the main destinations of metal anchors and grapnels exports from Uganda, together comprising 100% of total exports.

Overall, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the average export price increased by 469% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Rwanda ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Singapore (+493.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Uganda

In 2022, the amount of iron or steel anchors, grapnels imported into Uganda skyrocketed to X units, picking up by 549% on the previous year's figure. In general, imports continue to indicate a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 4,231%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, metal anchors and grapnels imports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, imports saw a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 725%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

China (X units), the United Arab Emirates (X units) and Kenya (X units) were the main suppliers of metal anchors and grapnels imports to Uganda, with a combined 81% share of total imports. The United States, Italy, Serbia, India and South Africa lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 13%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Serbia (with a CAGR of +419.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest metal anchors and grapnels suppliers to Uganda were China ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Kenya ($X), together accounting for 67% of total imports.
