Tanzania (X units) was the main destination for lead-acid accumulators (excluding starter batteries) exports from Uganda, with a 49% share of total exports. Moreover, lead-acid accumulators (excluding starter batteries) exports to Tanzania exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Kenya (X units), fourfold. South Sudan (X units) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 13% share.

In general, total imports indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +72.9% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 44%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units, and then reduced in the following year.

Overall, total imports indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +25.8% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 22%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

In 2022, China (X units) constituted the largest supplier of lead-acid accumulators (excluding starter batteries) to Uganda, with a 48% share of total imports. Moreover, lead-acid accumulators (excluding starter batteries) imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Vietnam (X units), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Egypt (X units), with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China totaled +3.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Vietnam (+22.6% per year) and Egypt (+99.8% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of lead-acid accumulators (excluding starter batteries) to Uganda, comprising 36% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by India ($X), with an 8% share of total imports. It was followed by Vietnam, with a 7.9% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from China totaled +5.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+3.0% per year) and Vietnam (+19.6% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average import price for lead-acid accumulators (excluding starter batteries) amounted to $X per unit, rising by 3.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 36%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2018 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
