Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Canada ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Botswana stood at $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Canada (+15.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Uganda
In 2022, overseas purchases of tangerines, mandarins, clementines, satsumas increased by 59% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after three years of decline. In general, imports recorded significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 1,623%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, mandarin and clementine imports surged to $X in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 1,173% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
In 2022, South Africa (X tons) constituted the largest mandarin and clementine supplier to Uganda, accounting for a 77% share of total imports. Moreover, mandarin and clementine imports from South Africa exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Egypt (X tons), threefold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from South Africa totaled +53.2%.
In value terms, the largest mandarin and clementine suppliers to Uganda were South Africa ($X) and Egypt ($X).
In terms of the main suppliers, Egypt, with a CAGR of +75.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average mandarin and clementine import price amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -8.4% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average import price increased by 117%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while the price for South Africa amounted to $X per ton.
