In 2022, supplies from abroad of meat dishes increased by 13% to X tons, rising for the fifth year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, imports recorded a prominent expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 106% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, meat dishes imports expanded sharply to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 71% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Portugal (X tons) constituted the largest meat dishes supplier to Uganda, accounting for a 37% share of total imports. Moreover, meat dishes imports from Portugal exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Italy (X tons), eightfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Denmark (X tons), with a 3.9% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Portugal stood at +1,776.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Italy (+21.4% per year) and Denmark (+22.8% per year).
In value terms, Portugal ($X) constituted the largest supplier of meat dishes to Uganda, comprising 27% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Italy ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Denmark, with a 4% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Portugal totaled +1,400.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Italy (+20.3% per year) and Denmark (+21.5% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average meat dishes import price amounted to $X per ton, approximately equating the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the average import price increased by 41% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the price for Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+6.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
