Camel and other animal meat exports from Uganda shrank notably to X tons in 2018, with a decrease of -59% against 2017 figures. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 12,808% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2018, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, camel and other animal meat exports declined remarkably to $X in 2018. In general, exports, however, recorded significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 16,382%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2018, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons) was the main destination for camel and other animal meat exports from Uganda, with a approx. 100% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2018, the average annual growth rate of volume to Democratic Republic of the Congo amounted to +58.1%.
In value terms, Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X) also remains the key foreign market for meat of camels and other animals exports from Uganda.

Export Prices by Country
In 2018, the average export price for meat of camels and other animals amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 14% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a pronounced slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the average export price increased by 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2018, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Imports into Uganda
In 2022, overseas purchases of meat of camels and other animals decreased by -79% to X kg, falling for the fifth year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, imports showed a dramatic slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 411%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, camel and other animal meat imports reduced markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports faced a sharp shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 588% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, South Africa (X kg) constituted the largest supplier of camel and other animal meat to Uganda, with a 54% share of total imports. Moreover, camel and other animal meat imports from South Africa exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X kg), twofold. The United Arab Emirates (X kg) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 15% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from South Africa totaled -30.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (-26.9% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (-30.4% per year).
In value terms, South Africa ($X) constituted the largest supplier of meat of camels and other animals to Uganda, comprising 91% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belgium ($X), with a 3.6% share of total imports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 2.7% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from South Africa amounted to -30.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belgium (-22.6% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (-25.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average import price for meat of camels and other animals amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -2.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 58% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+7.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
