In 2022, shipments abroad of men's or boys' clothing (not knitted or crocheted) increased by 9.7% to X units, rising for the second year in a row after four years of decline. Overall, exports, however, recorded a deep setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 266% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, non-knitted men apparel exports reduced slightly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw a deep contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 245% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
The Czech Republic (X units) was the main destination for non-knitted men apparel exports from Uganda, with a 37% share of total exports. Moreover, non-knitted men apparel exports to the Czech Republic exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Lithuania (X units), eightfold. Democratic Republic of the Congo (X units) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 3% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to the Czech Republic totaled +100,766.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Lithuania (-67.0% per year) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (-7.8% per year).
In value terms, the Czech Republic ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for men's or boys' clothing (not knitted or crocheted) exports from Uganda, comprising 34% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Lithuania ($X), with a 5.7% share of total exports. It was followed by South Sudan, with a 3.7% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the Czech Republic totaled +74,754.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Lithuania (-73.7% per year) and South Sudan (-37.3% per year).

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Sudan (+12.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Uganda
Non-knitted men apparel imports into Uganda plummeted to X units in 2022, waning by -24.2% against the previous year. In general, imports recorded a precipitous curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 49%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, non-knitted men apparel imports dropped markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a dramatic downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 140%. Imports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, China (X units) constituted the largest non-knitted men apparel supplier to Uganda, with a 87% share of total imports. It was followed by Thailand (X units), with a 2.8% share of total imports. Pakistan (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 2.1% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China amounted to -26.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Thailand (-21.5% per year) and Pakistan (-3.4% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of men's or boys' clothing (not knitted or crocheted) to Uganda, comprising 74% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by South Africa ($X), with a 3.2% share of total imports. It was followed by Pakistan, with a 1.9% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China amounted to -21.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: South Africa (-16.8% per year) and Pakistan (-3.7% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average non-knitted men apparel import price amounted to $X per unit, reducing by -23.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, enjoyed a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 62%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit, and then declined rapidly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per unit), while the price for Thailand ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hong Kong SAR (+13.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
