Mushroom And Truffle Market Size in Uganda

The Ugandan mushroom and truffle market expanded notably to $X in 2022, growing by 11% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). In general, consumption posted a buoyant increase. Mushroom and truffle consumption peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Exports from Uganda

In 2022, approx. X kg of mushrooms and truffles were exported from Uganda; which is down by -71.4% compared with 2021. Over the period under review, exports recorded a significant decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 68%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, mushroom and truffle exports contracted sharply to $X in 2022. In general, exports faced a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 69%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Rwanda (X kg) was the main destination for mushroom and truffle exports from Uganda, accounting for a 76% share of total exports. Moreover, mushroom and truffle exports to Rwanda exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Democratic Republic of the Congo (X kg), fourfold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Rwanda totaled -24.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Democratic Republic of the Congo (+8.0% per year) and Germany (-70.9% per year).

In value terms, Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X) remains the key foreign market for mushrooms and truffles exports from Uganda, comprising 86% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Rwanda ($X), with a 7.9% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Democratic Republic of the Congo amounted to +20.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Rwanda (-29.3% per year) and Germany (-61.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average mushroom and truffle export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by -14.2% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 137% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Rwanda ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+33.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Mushroom And Truffle Imports

Imports into Uganda

Mushroom and truffle imports into Uganda stood at X tons in 2022, picking up by 3.6% on 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 112% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, mushroom and truffle imports expanded notably to $X in 2022. In general, imports saw a prominent expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 144% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Rwanda (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) were the main suppliers of mushroom and truffle imports to Uganda, together comprising 80% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Rwanda (with a CAGR of +47.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Rwanda ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and South Africa ($X) appeared to be the largest mushroom and truffle suppliers to Uganda, with a combined 95% share of total imports.

Among the main suppliers, Rwanda, with a CAGR of +56.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average mushroom and truffle import price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 10% against the previous year. In general, the import price posted a slight increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when the average import price increased by 32%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
