In 2022, the amount of non-alcoholic beverages, not containing milk exported from Uganda reduced to X litres, declining by -13.3% against the year before. In general, exports faced a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 274% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X litres in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, non-alcoholic beverage, not containing milk exports fell to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports faced a dramatic setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 301% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Tanzania (X litres) was the main destination for non-alcoholic beverage, not containing milk exports from Uganda, accounting for a 88% share of total exports. Moreover, non-alcoholic beverage, not containing milk exports to Tanzania exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Burundi (X litres), ninefold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Tanzania totaled +5.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Burundi (-25.9% per year) and Germany (0.0% per year).
In value terms, Tanzania ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for non-alcoholic beverages, not containing milk exports from Uganda, comprising 70% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Burundi ($X), with a 16% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Tanzania amounted to -2.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Burundi (-25.1% per year) and Germany (0.0% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average export price for non-alcoholic beverages, not containing milk stood at $X per litre in 2022, rising by 8.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a perceptible shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 25%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per litre. From 2019 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per litre), while the average price for exports to Tanzania ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Rwanda (+9.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Non-Alcoholic Beverages, Not Containing Milk
Imports into Uganda
In 2022, imports of non-alcoholic beverages, not containing milk into Uganda fell notably to X litres, waning by -74.5% against the previous year. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a buoyant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 99%. Imports peaked at X litres in 2021, and then dropped significantly in the following year.
In value terms, non-alcoholic beverage, not containing milk imports contracted sharply to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 69% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then reduced notably in the following year.
Imports by Country
The Netherlands (X litres), Tanzania (X litres) and Spain (X litres) were the main suppliers of non-alcoholic beverage, not containing milk imports to Uganda, together comprising 54% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Tanzania (with a CAGR of +30.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) constituted the largest supplier of non-alcoholic beverages, not containing milk to Uganda, comprising 30% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Tanzania ($X), with a 15% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from the Netherlands stood at +11.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Tanzania (+28.1% per year) and Spain (+2.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average import price for non-alcoholic beverages, not containing milk stood at $X per litre in 2022, falling by -17.4% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a pronounced setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 10% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per litre in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per litre), while the price for Tanzania ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+6.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
