The exports peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, non-cellular polyvinyl chloride film exports contracted remarkably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw moderate growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 625%. The exports peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

South Sudan (X tons) was the main destination for non-cellular polyvinyl chloride film exports from Uganda, with a 76% share of total exports. Moreover, non-cellular polyvinyl chloride film exports to South Sudan exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons), fourfold.

In 2022, approx. X tons of non-cellular polyvinyl chloride films, sheets, foil and strip were imported into Uganda; dropping by -32.8% compared with the year before. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 260%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, non-cellular polyvinyl chloride film imports fell dramatically to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 322%. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then reduced dramatically in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of non-cellular polyvinyl chloride film to Uganda, with a 65% share of total imports. Moreover, non-cellular polyvinyl chloride film imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Kenya (X tons), with a 12% share.

The United Arab Emirates, with a CAGR of +35.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, the import price, however, enjoyed buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average import price increased by 37%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then shrank rapidly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+17.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
