For the third year in a row, Uganda recorded decline in overseas shipments of non-citrus fruits not elsewhere classified, which decreased by -71% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports saw a deep setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 635%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, non-citrus fruits not elsewhere classified exports reduced markedly to $X in 2022. In general, exports saw a mild decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 883% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Qatar (X tons), Kenya (X tons) and the UK (X tons) were the main destinations of non-citrus fruits not elsewhere classified exports from Uganda, together accounting for 87% of total exports. South Sudan, the United Arab Emirates and Oman lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 12%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by South Sudan (with a CAGR of +21.7%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, Qatar ($X) remains the key foreign market for non-citrus fruits not elsewhere classified exports from Uganda, comprising 52% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the UK ($X), with a 19% share of total exports. It was followed by Kenya, with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Qatar amounted to +47.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the UK (-12.3% per year) and Kenya (+26.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average export price for non-citrus fruits not elsewhere classified stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 47% against the previous year. Overall, the export price posted a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when the average export price increased by 76% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Kenya ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Rwanda (+31.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Non-Citrus Fruits Not Elsewhere Classified

In 2022, supplies from abroad of non-citrus fruits not elsewhere classified increased by 61% to X tons, rising for the fourth year in a row after three years of decline. Overall, imports, however, saw a mild descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 171%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, non-citrus fruits not elsewhere classified imports soared to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 103%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Kenya (X tons) was the main supplier of non-citrus fruits not elsewhere classified to Uganda, with a 99% share of total imports. It was followed by South Africa (X kg), with a 0.2% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Kenya amounted to +8.2%.
In value terms, Kenya ($X) constituted the largest supplier of non-citrus fruits not elsewhere classified to Uganda, comprising 93% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by South Africa ($X), with a 1% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Kenya amounted to +8.6%.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average import price for non-citrus fruits not elsewhere classified amounted to $X per ton, leveling off at the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a abrupt decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the average import price increased by 29%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per ton), while the price for Kenya amounted to $X per ton.
