Nuts Market Size in Uganda

In 2022, after three years of decline, there was significant growth in the Ugandan nuts market, when its value increased by X% to $X. Over the period under review, consumption, however, saw a pronounced setback. Nuts consumption peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Nuts Production in Uganda

In value terms, nuts production rose to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the production volume increased by X% against the previous year. The average yield of nuts in Uganda totaled less than X kg per ha in 2022, remaining constant against 2021 figures. In general, the yield showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.

Exports from Uganda

In 2022, shipments abroad of nuts decreased by X% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by X%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, nuts exports reached $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Germany (X tons) was the main destination for nuts exports from Uganda, accounting for a X% share of total exports. Moreover, nuts exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the Netherlands (X tons), twofold. The Czech Republic (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a X% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Germany stood at X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Netherlands (X% per year) and the Czech Republic (X% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X), the Czech Republic ($X) and Finland ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for nuts exported from Uganda worldwide, with a combined X% share of total exports.

In terms of the main countries of destination, the Czech Republic, with a CAGR of X%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average nuts export price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by X% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of X% against the previous year. The export price peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Rwanda ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Rwanda (X%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Nuts Imports

Imports into Uganda

In 2022, approx. X tons of nuts were imported into Uganda; with a decrease of X% against the year before. In general, imports continue to indicate a perceptible shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, nuts imports reached $X in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by X%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

The United Arab Emirates (X tons), Kenya (X tons) and India (X tons) were the main suppliers of nuts imports to Uganda, together comprising X% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by the United Arab Emirates (with a CAGR of X%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In value terms, Kenya ($X) constituted the largest supplier of nuts to Uganda, comprising X% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a X% share of total imports.
