In value terms, optical fiber, bundle and cable exports fell rapidly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Kenya (X tons) was the main destination for optical fiber, bundle and cable exports from Uganda, with a X% share of total exports. Moreover, optical fiber, bundle and cable exports to Kenya exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Zambia (X tons), with a X% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Kenya stood at X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Democratic Republic of the Congo (X% per year) and Zambia (X% per year).
In value terms, Kenya ($X), Rwanda ($X) and Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for optical fiber, bundle and cable exported from Uganda worldwide, together comprising X% of total exports.
Kenya, with a CAGR of X%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for optical fibers, bundles and cables stood at $X per ton in 2022, standing approx. at the previous year. In general, the export price, however, posted a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of X%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Rwanda ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Sudan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Rwanda (X%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Uganda
In 2022, imports of optical fibers, bundles and cables into Uganda shrank dramatically to X tons, waning by X% against 2021 figures. In general, imports, however, showed a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, China (X tons) was the main supplier of optical fiber, bundle and cable to Uganda, accounting for a X% share of total imports. It was followed by India (X tons), with a X% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China amounted to X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (X% per year) and France (X% per year).
