In general, consumption, however, continues to indicate a modest expansion. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports of Pigments, Opacifiers And Colours For Ceramics, Enamelling Or Glass
Exports from Uganda
After two years of growth, overseas shipments of pigments, opacifiers and colours for ceramics, enamelling or glass decreased by -32.5% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 3,101%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, pigments, opacifiers and colours exports dropped dramatically to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 4,145% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Burundi (X tons) was the main destination for pigments, opacifiers and colours exports from Uganda, with a 83% share of total exports. Moreover, pigments, opacifiers and colours exports to Burundi exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Democratic Republic of the Congo (X kg), eightfold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Burundi totaled +56.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Democratic Republic of the Congo (+60.3% per year) and Rwanda (+33.1% per year).
In value terms, Burundi ($X) remains the key foreign market for pigments, opacifiers and colours for ceramics, enamelling or glass exports from Uganda, comprising 68% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X), with a 28% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Burundi totaled +48.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Democratic Republic of the Congo (+77.9% per year) and Rwanda (+16.5% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average pigments, opacifiers and colours export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a noticeable decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 50% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Rwanda ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Democratic Republic of the Congo (+11.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Imports of Pigments, Opacifiers And Colours For Ceramics, Enamelling Or Glass
Imports into Uganda
In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of pigments, opacifiers and colours for ceramics, enamelling or glass, when their volume decreased by -36.1% to X tons. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded tangible growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 324%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, pigments, opacifiers and colours imports dropped sharply to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, enjoyed a tangible increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 392% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest pigments, opacifiers and colours supplier to Uganda, with a 54% share of total imports. Moreover, pigments, opacifiers and colours imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, South Africa (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Spain (X tons), with a 7.6% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at +3.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: South Africa (+37.0% per year) and Spain (+281.5% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of pigments, opacifiers and colours for ceramics, enamelling or glass to Uganda, comprising 58% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Spain ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by South Africa, with a 6.9% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China amounted to +6.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (+107.4% per year) and South Africa (+15.7% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average pigments, opacifiers and colours import price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 14% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a mild slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the average import price increased by 56%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while the price for South Africa ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mauritius (+56.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
