Plastic Packaging Market Size in Uganda

Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a pronounced increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, plastic packaging exports reduced notably to $X in 2022. In general, exports continue to indicate a noticeable downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

The United Arab Emirates (X tons), Burundi (X tons) and South Sudan (X tons) were the main destinations of plastic packaging exports from Uganda, together accounting for X% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by the United Arab Emirates (with a CAGR of X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Burundi ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and South Sudan ($X) constituted the largest markets for plastic packaging exported from Uganda worldwide, with a combined X% share of total exports.

Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Sudan ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Kenya ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Burundi (X%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Uganda

In 2022, plastic packaging imports into Uganda reduced to X tons, with a decrease of X% compared with 2021 figures. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a perceptible setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by X%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
