In value terms, polypropylene in primary forms exports reduced to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a noticeable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 1,391% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons) was the main destination for polypropylene in primary forms exports from Uganda, with a 72% share of total exports. Moreover, polypropylene in primary forms exports to Democratic Republic of the Congo exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Rwanda (X tons), threefold. Kenya (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 7.4% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Democratic Republic of the Congo stood at +42.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Rwanda (+2.4% per year) and Kenya (+3.7% per year).
In value terms, Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X) remains the key foreign market for polypropylene in primary forms exports from Uganda, comprising 80% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Rwanda ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Kenya, with a 4.6% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Democratic Republic of the Congo stood at +32.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Rwanda (-1.7% per year) and Kenya (-4.6% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average polypropylene in primary forms export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average export price increased by 29% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Burundi ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Rwanda (-4.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Uganda
In 2022, approx. X tons of polypropylene in primary forms were imported into Uganda; growing by 98% compared with 2021 figures. Overall, imports recorded a pronounced increase. Imports peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, polypropylene in primary forms imports surged to $X in 2022. In general, imports recorded a mild increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 64%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Saudi Arabia (X tons) constituted the largest polypropylene in primary forms supplier to Uganda, accounting for a 54% share of total imports. Moreover, polypropylene in primary forms imports from Saudi Arabia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United Arab Emirates (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by India (X tons), with a 9.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Saudi Arabia was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+5.6% per year) and India (+13.4% per year).
In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of polypropylene in primary forms to Uganda, comprising 53% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by India, with a 9.6% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Saudi Arabia totaled -2.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+3.6% per year) and India (+16.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average polypropylene in primary forms import price amounted to $X per ton, declining by -19.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a perceptible curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 34% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the highest price was recorded for prices from the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) and India ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) and South Africa ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+2.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
